ATTENDANCE Regular attendance at school is compulsory.
If a student is absent, the parent/guardian must call the school office before 9:00 a.m. If this call is not made by the specified time, a person designated by the school office will place a call to the parent/guardian to ascertain the whereabouts of the student.
If a student reports to school after 10:30 a.m. the student is marked absent for a half day.
If a student leaves school before 10:30 a.m. and does not return that day, the student is marked absent for the entire day. If the student leaves school after 10:30 a.m. and does not return that day, the student is marked absent for a half day.
An absence of a half day causes a student to lose a perfect attendance record. Any student tardy more than four times during a school year forfeits his/her perfect attendance record.
A written excuse from a parent/guardian is necessary when a student is absent. This note should include date(s) absent or tardy, reasons for absence or tardiness, and parent/guardian signature. This note should accompany the student on the day of his/her return to class.
A student may NEVER leave school alone during school hours.
All students must be signed out in the office by a parent or designated adult when leaving school during regular school hours. Classroom teachers will be notified when students have been signed out.
It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to ensure that his/her child(ren)are on time for school. The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. for grades K (a.m.) - 8 and 12:00 p.m. for K (p.m.). Children arriving after these times are considered tardy.
The tardy student is to report to the office with a reason for her/his tardiness. The office will give the student a Classroom Admission form.
The school discourages extended absences for vacations and other non- emergency trips. A student will be expected to make up all work and tests which the class completed during his/her absence upon his/her return. Parents should not expect teachers to have specific assignments prepared for the student prior to the scheduled absence.
Excessive absences and tardiness can adversely affect a student's progress. If this is the case, parents/guardians will be notified and a review of the student's progress will be made. Recommendations will then be given to the parent/guardian regarding the means to be taken to ensure that the student will remain current in his/her academic studies.
