RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES

Weekly (Sunday) participation in the Liturgy by every family in the school community is necessary if the spiritual formation of the child is a priority.

Student body liturgies are celebrated every Friday and Holy Day of Obligation at 8:30 a.m. Students prepare and lead the participation in Friday liturgies as a class. Parents/guardians are welcome to join us !

Since St. Charles Borromeo School was staffed by the Apostles of the Sacred Heart, devotion to the Sacred Heart has a special place in the spiritual life of the staff, and families of St. Charles Borromeo. The Enthronement of the Sacred Heart is celebrated each year either within a Eucharistic liturgy or within a para-liturgy.

A special May Crowning is also celebrated each year honoring the Blessed Mother.

A weekly prayer/award service is celebrated every Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to attend.

Stations of the Cross, Advent prayer services, and other para-liturgies to enhance the Church year are celebrated throughout the school year. All are welcome to attend these prayer experiences.

Sacramental Preparation

The initial reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist are an integral part of the Second Grade religion curriculum.

The Eighth Grade prepares for and receives the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is made available to students at intervals throughout the year. It is recommended, however, that parents/guardians encourage their child(ren) to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly.

Altar Servers

Altar servers are expected to dress appropriately. Altar servers are from the 5-8 grades.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Class parties for special occasions are allowed only with prior approval from the teacher and principal.

Each student is assigned a "buddy," This practice was initiated to engender a sense of responsibility in each student as well as to provide a deeper sense of belonging to the larger school community. On occasion the Student Council sponsors activities that involve buddies.

Treats for special occasions (e.g. birthdays) may be sent to school with students and will be distributed by the teacher. Please make certain these treats are kept simple.

Any social activities occurring after school hours are the responsibility of the parents.

Unless the entire class is invited, party invitations must never be given out at school because this invariably causes hurt feelings, .

If classes choose to collect money for a gift to be given to a faculty or staff member, the offerings are to be voluntary and are to be reasonable. Notification of this collection needs to be given to the principal prior to the collection being made.
